BRIGHT Laboratory

BRIGHT Lab connects lighting development with measured performance. We evaluate luminaires and lighting installations, providing technical data that helps manufacturers, designers and project teams make informed decisions.

Measured light. Informed decisions.

From a luminaire sample to an installed lighting system, we define the appropriate measurements and tests around the question your project needs to answer.

Our laboratory combines specialist equipment, experienced people and documented procedures to support product development, technical evaluation and quality assurance.

Measured light. Informed decisions.

What BRIGHT Lab delivers

Measure

Photometric, spectral and electrical data that describe how a luminaire performs.

Test

Controlled tests of protection, mechanical resistance and behaviour under environmental conditions.

Evaluate

Measurement results and evaluation reports suited to the agreed product or project requirements.

Understand the quality and distribution of light

Light output is only part of the picture. We examine distribution, colour, temporal light modulation and visual conditions to build a useful technical profile of the lighting solution.

Photometry & electrical performance

Photometry & electrical performance

We measure luminous flux, luminous intensity distribution, efficacy and electrical operating characteristics such as voltage, current and power. IES and LDT photometric files support lighting calculations and product documentation.

Spectrum, colour & temporal light modulation

Spectrum, colour & temporal light modulation

Spectral measurements describe the light source through parameters including CCT, CRI and TM-30 indices. PstLM and SVM measurements assess flicker and stroboscopic effects, supporting the evaluation of light quality and relevant performance requirements.

Luminance & visual comfort

Luminance & visual comfort

Imaging photometry records luminance distributions and contrast within the field of view. These measurements support the assessment of visual comfort and glare in luminaires and lighting installations, with the evaluation method selected for the application.

Photobiological evaluation

Photobiological evaluation

We examine optical radiation and spectral characteristics to assess photobiological hazards, including blue-light hazard, under defined measurement conditions. The results support the relevant risk assessment and technical documentation of the light source or luminaire.

Evaluate protection and durability

Protection against water

IP water tests assess enclosure protection against the specified exposure to water.

Protection against dust

Dust chamber testing evaluates the enclosure's protection against the ingress of solid particles.

Resistance to impact

IK testing uses controlled mechanical impacts to assess the integrity of the luminaire enclosure.

Controlled chamber tests help us evaluate how luminaires, materials and electronic components behave under the specified thermal and environmental conditions. The test programme is selected according to the construction and intended use of the product.

The humidity chamber provides controlled temperature and relative humidity conditions. Testing supports the assessment of functional stability, construction quality and behaviour in environments where humidity is a critical operating factor.

From the laboratory to your project

For manufacturers and project teams

BRIGHT Lab also evaluates products from other manufacturers. We discuss the sample, intended use and required deliverables before defining the test programme. Measured data can support product development, technical submissions and the assessment of relevant energy-performance and ErP requirements.

On-site measurements and evaluation reports

Where the project calls for measurements in the actual installation, we agree the visit, scope and measurement conditions with you. The work includes measurements and an evaluation report, giving the project team a documented view of the installation.

For lighting design and product selection, BRIGHT Plus can connect these findings with the needs of the project.

A documented basis for every evaluation

BRIGHT Lab is accredited by ESYD to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for the activities included in its accreditation scope. The applicability of accreditation is identified for the relevant measurements and reports.

Before work begins, we agree the product or installation to be assessed, the applicable method, test conditions and deliverables. This provides a clear basis for interpreting and using the results.
